The purpose of the archive is fairly self-evident. The idea is just to gather as many manifestos as possible, in a fully searchable and public format. The manifestos themselves are, of course, the property of the authoring parties. I don't have permission to host them here, but I'm hoping that parties will just be cool about it.
Where there is any dispute about whether X or Y counts as a party, I've tended to be as inclusive as possible. The United Left Alliance, for example, was not registered as a party in 2011, but is regarded as one here, for ease of browsing.
The idea for this came about when I was trying to do an essay two years ago, and was looking for some manifestos from the 70s (mostly in reference to EC membership). Pre-internet manifestos are pretty tough to find, so hopefully this will be of some help to people in similar situations, or those who just have an interest in this sort of thing.
The site design is a heavily-modified version of the Conservation Design by Studio 7. They make some lovely sites professionaly, and offer a few nice free templates.
The site had previously been at the address "Manifestos.ie". This costs money, and I don't have much at the moment. I hope to move the archive to that address once I've a bit more disposable income.
My name's Michael Pidgeon, and I'm from Dublin. I was a student in European Economic and Public Policy in UCD when I set up this site.
